How it Started

It has to start somewhere. So why not right here?

You don't have to look far to find a fight.

Jesus calls us—commands us—to love one another. To love those around us. And, as often happens with our human nature, we instead bicker with each other and slander each other.

"Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal." 1 Cor. 13:1

As Christians, we know all the words. We sing the songs, we know the Bible verses. But sometimes we know them a little bit too well. It becomes our nature to know what to say, while at the same time becoming numb to what these words mean.

It's so easy to love on Sunday, when you have goosebumps after a great sermon, and everyone is smiling. And it's so easy to forget love when things go wrong, when someone says something against you.

I'm just as guilty as anyone in this; maybe even more than most. It's so hard not to get sucked into the trap.

There's too much fighting and not enough kindness. Why is it that, even in the church, people are shocked when others are kind to them? This is why I (Kate) teamed up with my friend Ellie to start Operation: Share Kindness.

It's so hard to be kind to those who spite you, especially other Christians. "They're not being kind do me; why should I be kind to them?" But the buck stops here. Let the kindness start with you, right here, right now. I guarantee that the more kindness you spread, the more blessed you will be, and the less you will want to start a fight with the next person who disagrees with you or calls you names.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to intentionally look for ways to bless someone around you. Twice a week, we will be providing challenges as a springboard for your own ideas. The more you do, the more kindness you spread, the easier it will become and the more opportunities you will find.

You never know who needs to hear a word of encouragement or see that someone cares. Your simple actions could brighten an entire day (or week!), and inspire others to share that kindness with others.

Let's start a chain reaction; kindness is contagious.

"And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you." Eph. 4:32
